Public interest and independence
Editorial decisions turn on whether information helps people understand rights, safety, opportunity or collective decisions. Owners, advertisers, vendors and political actors cannot dictate selection, language or conclusions.
Sources and verification
Named first-hand sources, primary documents, open data and reproducible methods take priority. Allegations from a single anonymous source are generally withheld; exceptions require separate scrutiny of knowledge, motive and potential harm.
Live and breaking coverage labels confirmed, preliminary and unverified information separately. Speed is never a substitute for accuracy where people may act on the result.
Politics, polling and statistics
Political claims face the same standard regardless of party. Poll coverage identifies sample, field dates, funder, wording, non-response and uncertainty. During elections or violence, projections remain distinct from official results.
Technology and editorial responsibility
Editorial technology never replaces source verification or human judgement. The newsroom remains accountable for every published claim, quotation, image and source, while confidential sources and unpublished personal information stay protected.
Privacy and minimising harm
Publishing identity, precise location, health information or traumatic imagery requires a recorded balance of public interest and foreseeable harm. For children and vulnerable people, consent alone may be insufficient; power imbalance and lasting digital harm also matter.
Diversity and inclusion
Bangladesh is not viewed only through Dhaka or powerful institutions. Region, class, gender, age, disability, religion, ethnicity and language inform source diversity. Communities should not become visible only when they are in crisis.
Corrections and accountability
Material changes beyond typography state what changed, why and when. Serious errors are labelled promptly and corrected across distribution channels. Complaints are answered against evidence; accurate reporting is not removed simply under pressure.
